This home’s study needed to provide not only an office space, but also a retreat. Designed for a family of prolific readers, active outdoor enthusiasts, and world travelers, this home office — the first room you encounter in their house – also needed to reflect their diverse interests. When we started the project, the room was devoid of character, with the exception of a beloved rug.
We knew immediately that wall color was a critical decision: a strong backdrop would be required to pop the accents and textures we imagined for this room. Benjamin Moore #1595 (Rocky Coast), a saturated warm gray, provided just the right weight. With this change, the custom bookcases, with their backless shelves revealing the richly hued walls, really invite the paint color into the whole room. We created contrast and a natural aesthetic by incorporating Maria Yee furnishings in a ginger finish. To further bring the room to life, we used layers of bright colors and a myriad of textures. From the ethnically-inspired pillows to the figurative sculpture made of bicycle chain, this redecorated home office space now represents a retreat and a reflection of this family of adventurers.
